2024 Parade of Homes to showcase 20 local properties with the latest trends and innovations in décor and construction (6)

A total of 20 homes, including two remodels, will be featured in the 2024 Parade of Homes in the Greater New Orleans area.

All homes can be seen in person from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. June 22, June 23, June 29 and June 30. Select homes can also be seen virtually beginning July 3 on the “New Orleans Parade of Homes” mobile app, available in the App Store on Apple devices and Google Play on Androids.

The 2024 Parade of Homes is presented by Troyer Builders and James Hardie, and is hosted by the Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans (HBAGNO).

“This year’s Parade offers a variety of homes in neighborhoods that reflect the diverse tastes and budgets of potential homebuyers across our community,” said Dan Mills, CEO of the HBAGNO. “As we continue to monitor key housing issues affecting potential homeowners, such as homeowner and flood insurance, we are excited and proud to once again showcase the work of our area’s most innovative builders, subcontractors, and vendors who provide inspiration while building strong relationships in the communities they serve.”

The homes featured in this year’s Parade span neighborhoods across Greater New Orleans, including Lakeview, Lake Vista, English Turn, The Parks of Plaquemines, Arbors Estates, Planters Estates, Hamilton Oaks, Ashton Plantation, Bonnabel Place, Old Metairie, Jefferson Heights, University City, Louisiana Trace, Gabriel Estates in Kenner and Country Club Gardens in New Orleans. Overall, the properties featured in the 2024 Parade of Homes feature innovations in construction, remodeling and wind mitigation, as well as popular trends like adaptable and multi-purpose layouts, combined open air living spaces, textures, colors and more.

“In terms of interiors, people are going for warmer tones and grays are starting to go away. We’re also seeing less of the stark white and black, although it is still sometimes used for a dramatic effect,” said Gerald Mire, CAO of Hyman L. Bartolo Jr. Contractors Inc. and Bartolo Building Products Inc. and vice-president of the HBAGNO. “When it comes to construction, we are definitely seeing people wanting bigger pantries that act as a prep kitchen. People are also looking for larger homes with oversized front doors and separate his-and-her bathrooms.”

Mire added that as homeowners seek the best possible insurance rates and builders work to abide by new building codes, fortifying structures has become a key focal point in both new construction and remodels.

“We’re definitely seeing more gables and hip roofs, as well as people adding more tie-downs in the walls and doing everything they can to support their roofs,” he said.

The Parade of Homes is also an opportunity to view the 2024 St. Jude Dream Home, built by Hyman L. Bartolo Jr. Contractors. Proceeds from the annual raffle support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This year’s home is located at 4812 Garden Street in Metairie and is approximately 2,500 square feet, with three bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms and a dazzling array of amenities. The home is valued at $725,000.

Mire said some of the most notable features of the St. Jude Dream Home include a freestanding staircase, a wine cellar, pecan wood cabinets, quartz countertops, black stainless steel appliances, a combination microwave/speed oven, a powder room with floating cabinets, a primary bedroom closet with his-and-her sections, a two-car garage, mudroom and outdoor kitchen. The upper floor features two en suite bedrooms in a loft setting.

“We are going for a storybook home, so the design features a lot of angles and cut lines on the roof,” Mire said. “Inside, we went with a lot of black and gold to pay homage to the Saints and what they mean to the area.”

Mire added that he is excited to see two remodeled homes featured in this year’s Parade of Homes. He noted that more property owners are drawn to the idea of extensive remodels or complete teardowns as less land becomes available for residential developments.

“When you do a remodel, it can be a night and day difference,” he said. “We’re excited to show off those homes and give people a vision of what a house can look like in the future.”

Whether someone is looking to buy a new home or remodel an existing one, the Parade of Homes is a chance to talk directly with local builders, ask them questions and spark their own imagination when it comes to design. The work of 16 area builders will be featured this year, and each company will have representatives on site throughout the Parade of Homes.

The “New Orleans Parade of Homes” mobile app features a full list of this year’s Parade homes, including locations, directions, prices, builder contacts, sponsors and vendors. Attendees will also be able to vote for their favorite home and home features. More information can also be found online at www.hbagno.org/hbagnopoh or by following the Parade on social media @HBAGNO.
