This tutorial will show you how to change the text cursor blink rate for your account in Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows 11.

The text cursor is that blinking line at the end of what you are typing in Windows.

The cursor blink rate is how often the text cursor blinks.

The default cursor blink rate is every 530 milliseconds, but you can stop or change this blink rate to be slower or faster.

Option One

Change Text Cursor Blink Rate in Keyboard Properties


1 Open the Control Panel (icons view), and click/tap on the Keyboard icon.

2 Click/tap on the Speed tab in Keyboard Properties. (see screenshot below)

3 Adjust the Cursor blink rate slider for the blink rate you want.

4 Click/tap on OK.

Option Two

Change Text Cursor Blink Rate in Registry Editor


1 Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe).

2 Navigate to the key below in the left pane of Registry Editor. (see screenshot below)

3 In the right pane of the Desktop key, double click/tap on the CursorBlinkRate string value (REG_SZ) to modify it. (see screenshot above)

4 Type in a number between 200 (faster) and 1200 (slower) milliseconds for the text cursor blink rate you want, and click/tap on OK. (see screenshot below)

The default text cursor blink rate is 530 milliseconds.

Typing -1 will set the text cursor blink rate to none to stop the text cursor from blinking anymore.

5 Close Registry Editor.

6 Either Sign out and Sign in or restart the computer to apply.
