Some examples of incidents that happened all right in a row that precipitated the shutdown and schedule shift:
- On Feb. 6, a worker on the construction side of a temporary wall dropped a pipe wrench that landed behind a ticket counter on the other side of the wall.
- On Feb. 9, a bucket with materials fell off an elevated platform into a restricted area occupied by airport employees.
- Also on Feb. 9, an airport employee entered an employee-only restroom where demolition was happening above. It was not adequately restricted to prevent employees from entering during that time, and the employee heard debris fall onto the ceiling. Shortly after the employee left the restroom, debris pushed an access panel in the ceiling open and fell through.
- On Feb. 12, workers dropped a metal panel from a lift, and it landed in the ticket counter area, outside a barrier set up to prevent anyone from getting too close to the work area.

So, basically a normal construction site
I'll admit I've not ever worked at a super-secure area like an airport but have been on plenty of construction sites and most of this is pretty much what happens everyday.

Looks like they are having a "dress rehearsal" for those interested in a behind-the-scenes tour of the new terminal before it opens to the general public. You have to sign-up via the link below and I'm actually going to be at PDX at that time on August 3rd, but it looks like all spots were already taken (even though I think it was just announced today--who would have thought a new airport terminal would be THAT popular). I went ahead and signed up for the "waitlist" so I'll see what happens.

Did you see the waitlist bypass option - you just have to eat a bowl of kale mustard polenta lawnclippings with "creative Northwest Flavo(u)rs sauce."

From the Event FAQ:
"Expect to be here for about 2 ½ hours. You’ll “act” out 2 to 3 different traveler scripts, where you’ll go through check-in; explore the space; go through security; and share your feedback after each one."
This would be my dream, get assigned script of Karen #7, and mock yell at some gate agent for something that is entirely "my" fault.

Even better, give the TSA agents a hard time without repercussions

I got lucky around 3pm and happened to see a news story on it. The 1pm was sold out, but I spent 20 minutes or so refreshing multiple pages and was able to get two individual tickets for the 1:30 time.

If the opening is further substantially delayed, the contractors should be fined daily as is usual with public projects.
