It's been so long since I read a "bad" book that I had almost forgotten what the experience was like! Thank goodness BOYS THAT BITE came to remind me, lest I grow soft and foolhardy in my ignorance.

BOYS THAT BITE is about two sisters named...Sunny and Rayne. Sunny is a prep and Rayne is a goth. (This book was written in 2006, when such distinctions were important.) One day, Rayne drags Sunny to a Goth club and Sunny accidentally gets bitten by a vampire named Magnus. It turns out that he was actually supposed to bite Rayne, who has spent years on a special waiting list for the privilege, but because they're twins...oops!

The next two hundred something pages consists of plot devices that can be summed up with statements that start with "OMG" and end with exclamation points:

OMG, now I'm totally going to be a vampire and that sucks because I'll miss prom!

OMG, but the vampire that bit me is kind of hot, though!

OMG, now there's a vampire slayer but she's totes fat you guys, ew yuck! But also LOL!

OMG, but what about that sexy jock that I like! OMG, being a vampire means excreting pheromones that make EVERYONE like me, including dirty old man teachers, ew yuck!

OMG, so it turns out that maybe I can become a human again if I drink from the Holy Grail!

OMG, but that hot vampire though!

OMG, flying on a private jet to England!

OMG, prom with my sexy jock boyfriend!

OMG, that hot vampire guy though!

OMG, my twin sister is a selfish meanie and I hate her so much!

OMG, I'm a vampire!

This is one of those books that was clearly written with the idea that teenagers are vapid creatures who see all other girls as rivals to be jealous of (Rayne), slu*t-shame (Rayne), or fat-shame (the vampire slayer). Sunny was intolerable as a narrator, and a useless trash person as a human being. It's been a while since I read a character who was so selfish and shallow who I wasn't supposed to hate. The attempts to inject pop-culture and teen-speak into this book also feel really embarrassing and dated. I grabbed this book when it was free for Kindle a few months ago and I kind of wonder if it was rewritten to be more "modern" and "hip"? Because this book was written in 2006, mind, and yet, the book mentions Taylor Swift (and calls her "T-Swizzle"), the Kardashians are mentioned, and at one point, Sunny says she looks like "Jennifer Laurence." None of those things were hugely relevant in 2006. Those are more like 2016 pop culture references. On the other hand, the references and pervasiveness of Goth culture and punk culture and bands like Green Day make this book feel way more like an early 2000s effort. If this book was edited to be more "modern," it failed miserably, because now it comes across as this Frankenstein effort written by an alien who only understands teenagers from what they have seen on reruns of after school specials.

I'm really annoyed because I wanted to like this book. I love vampire stories, and I even love teenage vampire stories like TWILIGHT. This book wanted to be TWILIGHT but it also wanted to be edgy, and ended up sacrificing the love story that made TWILIGHT so epic for annoying teenage drama and ended up sacrificing the edginess for "OMG, I'm so relatable you guys! G to the whizzle! I'm hip and I'm straight-edge and I'm here to shake the scene, tubular-style!"-type shenanigans that kind of made me feel like I was watching a friend's dad try to sound cool at a barbecue. Oh, and that insta-love. That insta-love. It made TWILIGHT look like A Very Long Engagement.

I think I'll be giving the rest of this author's books a miss.

I didn't get far into this book.. just far enough.

I believe the lead characters are 16 years of age? There abouts. This book reads like it was written by a 16 year old.

Tell me about it. *sighs* If that's not enough.. the whole idea is beyond help. You have to enter into a contract to be turned into a vampire. Fine.. I'll go along with that. But where do they plan on doing this? Why at a club. Duh! Why wouldn't you want to be secretly turned into a vampire at a club full of people? Oh and invite your twin sister along, you know, the one that knows nothing of this or vampires.

As for the vampire.. I believe in this story vampires can only turn one person in their lifetimes, why the hell wouldn't you make sure you had the right person?! I would want to see some I.D. myself. Do a little verification before I'm stuck with someone forever. Not only that but WTF?! They're picking out who they're going to turn and be with for ALL ETERNITY from the internet?!?

It was at some point in all this literary genius that I literally threw the book across the room. If it was a choice between finishing this book and being shot in the head, of course I'd finish the book. But I wouldn't be able to help a good 5 minute pause while I seriously contemplated it.

It’s been some time since I’ve read this. I orig­i­nally reviewed it in Ger­man, but decided to trans­late it into Eng­lish. (I’m redesign­ing my blog) So, if I got some things wrong, please humorme.

I have no idea where to start. It started with that moment where I sat in front of my bookshelves and thought I'd need something new and special and fresh, and yes, my tbr-pile has started talking to me at this point, but what wouldn't I give for something amazing. Instead, I got Boys That Bite. A book so awful that it had me crawl out of bed despite being sick, just to talk about how little I enjoyed it.

I'm possibly being really harsh, but still. Boys that Bite was quite horrible.

First of all — There are no boys. The guys are old. Ancient. Vam­pires. So, the title is mis­lead­ing, but that’d be okay if the con­tent was suf­fer­able.

But it wasn't. I'm not sure what urged the author to create characters with so little dimension that readers'd fear imploding books, but there you have it. I was so close to DNFing this novel, I might as well just have.

There are two roads I could go here: Either I'll complain about the injustice done to Sunnie (the main character, without personality except for that of a whiney, melodramatic toad) or about the fact that Magnus, a thousand year old vampire, would actually go for children. Had he just bitchslapped the hell out of this entire book, I'd have been slightly less judgemental.

Okay, the best thing would have been for Sunny to wake up and suddenly realise that she was an actual human being, with the complexity of one, but let's just not.

Sun­shine has Hipster-parents and a twin-sister named Rayne, who except for being her twin and shar­ing herDNAhas noth­ing in com­mon with her. She’s also a Goth. Or something resembling that, I suppose. No joking.

While Sunnie’s is des­per­ately hop­ing for Jake Wilder, one of the pop­u­lar guys, to ask her to prom, Rayne wants to become a vam­pire. She then takes Sun­nie to a disco, where she should’ve been made. Except that the guy who should trans­form her mis­takes Sun­nie for her and infects her with the vampire-virus.

Des­per­ate, Sun­nie tries to fight the virus and stay human, but along the 7 days-journey she falls in love with Mag­nus. Who is 10xHugh Heffner.

I’d like to point out what I liked about the book, but there is almost to com­pletely noth­ing. It was a quick read, thank God, some­times almost nice. Those times are the scenes with­out Sun­nie or Magnus.. or any of the characters.. Oh wait.

Her imma­ture (I hate that word, actu­ally) atti­tude destroys any appeal this novel could have had, though. Plus, this seems to be the one book that didn’t hes­i­tate to use every stereo­type out there and some. Edwa– I mean, Mag­nus, who is a mil­lenia old and should log­i­cally be very wise gets involved with a teenager? Sri­ously? And why is Rayne tak­ing her sis­ter with her to the disco/club? Not only are the characters walking staples, the plot downright ridiculous, it didn't seem self-aware. You can kinda enjoy books that are intentionally bad.

How is it pos­si­ble to fall in love with a man, whom you don’t know at all? Why would some­one make the deci­sions this hero­ine did? Why the ones the herodid? Because there are books where someone falls instantly in love and you buy that, right? Just.. not this one.

It can’t be okay to propagate a book like this, were the reader is actu­ally told that in order to be happy you need a boyfriend and that as long as the guy looks like he’s 18 years old it doesn’t mat­ter that he’s older than Hugh Heffner.

There is this extreme dif­fer­ence between the mind of a 15 and a 18 years old per­son. Three years of life expe­ri­ences make a huge dif­fer­ence. What do 985 years do to a per­son? (I won’t even start with the mat­ing bond-sh*t..)

Bot­tomline:

For edu­ca­tional pur­poses it should be for­bid­den for peo­ple below the age of 16 to read this book. That much self­ishnes, self­pity and stu­pid­ity in a per­son who is the pro­tag­o­nist, for God’s sake, is unbearable, especially when the narration and worldbuilding just work it as if it's normal.

And if you have a hint of moral val­ues you wouldn’t allow any­one over the age of 15 to read the book, because as sorry as I am, it was tor­ture to spend 2 hours with those folks. I’d rather have taken a shower. Tidied up my room. Talked to my 90 years old neighbour.. (I don't have that neighbour. I'd talk to my 90 year old imaginary neighbour.)

Boys That Bite sounds interesting. The synopsis is enough that you think you're going to get a pretty good book.
I, personally, found this to be the suckiest vampire book (pun
intended).

I was the victim of falling for a pretty cover and in the course of falling, my brain was turned to mush. No, really, I'm not kidding.

Sunny is the most annoying character in the history of annoying characters. She's interested in Jake Wilder, the guy who's super popular, with bedroom eyes- of course, he has no idea she exists.
Enter Magnus. Vampire. Major hottie. British. Sapphire eyes. Once a knight of King Arthur's. A thousand years old. She falls for him at once. Magnus, mistakenly bites Sunny thinking that she is her twin sister Rayne. Yes, Rayne. Sunshine and Rayne. Rayne is described as a typical 'goth' kid. Black clothes. Long black skirts. Black makeup. Extraordinarily pale. Rayne was supposed to have been turned into a vampire the night Sunny was bit. Heck, she even had her certificate in training on how to be vampire. Not to mention she runs a blog that is mentioned every five seconds

Now, the book wasn't too bad, but once you get past chapter 6, it just...sucks. Every character is compared to their celebrity counter-part. Orlando Blood (Pirates of the Caribbean Orlando, not Lord of the Rings Orlando). Brad Pitt. Haley Joel Osment. I couldn't read a page without there being some kind of comparison to something 'famous'.

Boys that Bite also takes an ode from Buffy...There are slayers, "Once a generation a girl is born who is destined to slay the vampire."
Sound familiar?

The way the book is written feels more like it's geared to people who are 15 or less. I didn't connect with any of the characters and I didn't enjoy the writing. The whole time I wished for the ride to be over. And it's one ride I won't ever get on again.

Boys That Bite by Mari Mancusi

Paranormal YA romance. 1st in the Blood Coven Vampire series.
Definitely written for the younger crowd with plenty of current day references. Included teen angst and teen values as well as teen crushes and love.
Emphasis on innocence and the introduction to the darker world.
Light and easy read.
The only discordant note for me was the attitude of Sunny towards the slayer. Her issue wasn’t so much the danger but rather the weight and appearance of the slayer. Intolerable fat shaming.

First in a series. Epilogue makes it a cliffhanger.

This book is so bad!
Not only is it full of Vampire clichés, it's also really terrible written.

Ok, ok... let me calm down a bit....
First let me start off with saying that I had this book on my shelf for forever.
I knew that it would be bad and full of clichés, but I still picked it up because my challange for this month was to read a book that has been forever on my shelves, so here I am. Reading it. Finishing it. Writting a review for it.

Sunny and her twin Rayne could be no more different even if they didn't look alike.
(You see, their mother somehow knew what kind of personalities her daughters would have and named them accordingly.)
While Sunny is your normal teenage student that has a crush on the most popular guy in school, (even tho she is sure that he doesn't know she excist), Rayn on the other hand isn't.
She is more of your typical goth girl who owns only black clothes and is into dark stuff like Vampires. So much she even wants to become on of them and actually manages to close a deal with them to make her one.
Only when she and her sister go out in a club, the said Vampire mistakes them and bites Sunny instead of Rayne.
Even tho Sunny doesn't belive them at the beginning, she starts to panic and wants a way out of this. She doesn't want to become a Vampire, so she and the Vampire Magnus, are on the hunt for the antidote that will make her human again.

The Vampire-Romance clichés didn't bother me as much as the narrator did.
Sunny is the most annoying narrator I've ever read from!
It's written in first POV and it drove me crazy.
It is so full of 00's pop culture that it actually pained me to read this book even tho it was short and fast paced. We literally didn't get any single sentence that didn't was accompanied by some pop culture refrence.

•I gasp as my eyes become accustomed to the dim light and I see what we've walked into. It's like a mansion. An un-derground mansion. With cathedral ceilings, floors made of marble, and the most elegant furnishings I've ever seen. I can see why they need Fort Knox-like security down here. It's a tomb raider's dream come true. Lara Croft would have a field day.

•At the end of the hall, we enter a lobby where a thin, blond woman sits behind a desk, filing her nails and looking bored. She looks like someone I know, but I can't seem to place her.

That's it! She looks like Marcia Brady from the The Brady Bunch. Heh.

• Lucifent's office turns out to be as deluxe as the rest of the underground coven. The only thing missing is windows. I'd hate the no-windows thing, were I to become a permanent vamp. Though the Picassos on the wall might make up for their absence somewhat. The floors are made of gleaming hardwood and a giant mahogany desk lies in the center of the room.

Behind the desk sits Haley Joel Osment, the little kid from that creepy Sixth Sense movie.

• Suddenly, milliseconds before he can spit out the knowl-edge that will save me from eternal damnation, warning sirens start going off. They sound like something you'd hear on a Star Trek episode, moments before the Enterprise self-destructs. Or after Homer Simpson does something stupid yet again at the Springfield nuclear power plant.

• She's dressed in black leather, but don't get the mistaken impression that she's at all attractive and sexy in it. Let's just say Bertha the Vampire Slayer has evidently been hitting the drive-through a few too many times on her dinner break. And leather sure isn't very forgiving when it comes to super sizing your French fries. Especially tight, low-rise leather pants that allow her stomach fat to ooze out her front. Add a greasy zit-face and the stringy blond hair and you'll get a good mental picture of what this "Slayer" looks like.

I think I prefer Sarah Michelle Gellar.

"Lucifent," she snarls, raising her wooden stake. Wow, she's got braces too. I can't believe the mortal enemy of all vampires goes to an orthodontist. "Prepare to die."

And so many more. The book is full of them.
So yeah, it's safe to say that I won't be continuing on with this series even tho I would have if the narriation didn't make me want to rip my hair out.

If you want to give it a shot, be my guest but don't say that I didn't warn you.

Sunshine is the innocent and sweet identical twin to her dark goth sister Rayne, and one night when Rayne takes her to goth hangout Club Fang, Sunny is mistaken for Rayne. Unfortunately for her, its vampire Magnus, who was assigned to Rayne as her bloodmate that makes the mistake and he bites her and turns her into a vampire. What follows is the story of Sunshine trying to become human again while also insisting she be able to go to the prom. She also insists she does not like Magnus, even though bloodmates are supposed to be connected forever after a bite so you know where that's going. This was an easy, fast read, with some interesting worldbuilding (a chubby acned slayer, three month training, testing and a waiting list to get a vampire mate), but the characters were very one dimensional. I think this is the third/fourth time this month I've read a YA vamp novel featuring a goth character (Rayne) or a cheerleader type character (Sunny), and an older vampire in a young man's body who for some strange reason I can't fathom overlooks the foibles of teens and acts like a teen himself (Magnus).

This is not my cup of tea. The writing is too juvenile for me to be interested. The protagonist is bitten and will soon transform into a full fledge vampire. How does she act ... silly, non-chalant, cracking jokes and just being lame. It's completely non-realistic. The cover is misleading. It's pretty and on the serious side. I thought I was getting a deep well thought out story line. Far from it.

This was silly, and not in a fun way. The author tried to hard to be funny. It ended up sounding like a vampire spoof that wasn't meant to be a spoof. I enjoy YA but this is more pre-teen silly style.

Things that left me saying "What?" ( and this is all at the beginning of the book!) ...

* The vampire coven secretary is named Marcia and looks like Marcia Brady.
* The coven's leader is a young kid that looks like Haley Joel Osmond!
* Sunshine talks to the coven leader like a little kid saying stupid things to him - ex. "Hey, you." " You're so cute." She's just annoying and her actions are fake.
* Vampire slayer is Bertha. Who is described as over weight, greasy zit-face, stringy blond hair slayer. "She wears tight, low-rise leather pants that allow her stomach fat to ooze out her front".
* Berths slays the all powerful and might coven leader in about 2 seconds. The lamest fight scene ever written.

Overall it was to silly for my taste.

I was busy wavering between four stars and three stars for Boys That Bite. I ended up with three.

Boys that Bite was funny. It was really funny and I loved the humour and optimism that the main heroine had. It was a short, fun read. But the thing is, the storyline was kind of crap and has been done before a million times. And even though most teenagers do not have a great vocabulary (I'm speaking from experience at my previous high school only), they can actually manage at least some words. The author just had to put in like, hottie, oh my god etc. a thousand times in the book to make it sound authentic.

Still, I enjoyed it.

If you expect a book type Twilight or Evernight I recommend you don’t read this book. Even if it posses all the elements of the books that I mention above the one thing that BTB doesn’t possess isthe element of love as Bella & Edward or Bianca & Lucas unconditional and irrevocably love I think that Mancusi main job of was to write a fun book, with a whole bunch of hilarious characters, with the vampires legends and folklore and of course a fun and light romance.

The main character, Sunshine aka Sunny, is the typical teenage adolescent who one day is worried about the dress she is going to wear to prom and the next day and without her consentment she has to deal with the fact that she’s a turning into a vampire and that she may stay that way forever if she doesn’t act fast. Mancusi doesn’t try to show us a very complex character just a normal girl thrown in a crazy situation, I even like her more than Elena from Vampire Diaries (Don’t flame me but I still and I don’t think I would ever like Elena). Of course there’s also the vampire, Magnus, who turn Sunny because he mistake her for her twin sister. He’s charming, funny, sexy and very sweet. He knows because of his mistake he has to do his best to help Sunny and well along the way he realize that maybe the shallow but sweet and very hard headed Sunny may be the one he’s destined to be with, but how so if she doesn’t want to be a vampire. See, who said that this book didn’t have any complication?
And of course the best thing about Magnus is that Mancusi describe him as he’s alike Orlando Bloom and that totally made my reading even more pleasant.

At the end of the book there’s a big cliffhanger since we all now that Rayve story must be told and Mancusi may surprise you with what would be her new role in Stake That

So if you want to read book with fun dialog, hilarious situation and breezy characters I think this would be fine choice for you. I think that this book accomplish what it was written for, for you to have a good time

When I first read the synopsis of the book, I though it was cool, so I immediately tried it.
Was I ever so wrong.

At first it was kind of good, or at least decent.
Mari Mancusi introduced us to one of the twin sisters' life, Sunshine's.
She's the average teenage girl, in love with the hot kid of high school, and trying to be someone.
But soon she gets caught up in the vampire world, a world she's too reluctant to accept and understand.

This I did like.
It's not like other chicks in book; when they're told who they're talking to is a vampire, and they're like "Whoa, really, I'm scared now."
No.
She laughs and thinks it's a joke, because REALLY, THAT'S what girls in books should do. This was a point in favor for Mari Mancusi.
But then the book starts to fall.
This "mission" they have to accomplish, the journey, the save-the-girl-and-come-back-home project. It was all SO badly written.
Seriously, this became one of the WORST book I've ever read.

The ending was totally rushed out.
Apart from the fact that their "mission" was a total flop.
Like, they arrived to England, encountered basically no obstacle, went right into the right place and got the Holy Graal like it was all so simple. Yeah right.
Plus, at the end, one minute the girl was still *spoiler* a vampire, and the next she was human again, and you were left like "what happened". .__.

I'm not going to lie, I've read the other books in the series, but that only for mere curiosity.
The storyline wasn't bad, so I was somehow hoping it would get better in the other books.
But every minute I read it became more and more ridiculous, really.
I am sorry Mari Mancusi, but this series is a total flop.

Synopsis: Due to the worst case of mistaken identity in the case of humanity, Magnus, a vampire hottie, went for Sunshine's innocent neck insted of her dark side loving twin sister Rayne who went thru the vampire testing to find her vampire mate, signed a contract to become a vampire, and even has her own vampire web site logging her journey into becoming a vampire.

Now if she doesn't reverse the bite in time, Magnus will be her blood mate forever and she's doomed to be a blood-gulping, pasty, daylight-hating vampire. That would seriously bite; espcially after hotty Jake Wilder just asked her to the prom.

Of course, things get loopy from here. With the unfortunate slaying of the vampire leader Lord Lucifant by Betsy the Vampire Slayer (seriously!) with a weight problem; Sunshine, Rayne, and Magnus must find the one thing that can solve her problem: the Holy Grail.

They wish it were a joke but it's not. Magnus is also the newly crowned king of the coven, thanks to Lucifants untimely death. The ending is quite funny actually with Sunshine getting the surprise of her young life.

This is the first book in the series and is mostly from Sunny's POV. Sunny and Rayne's mother is most definitely a flower child with her tofu loving recipes...yuck! This is a definite YA novel and geared towards those in HS.

All Sunny McDonald wants is to get through high school, get good grades, and get Sex God Jake Wilder to notice her. But when she reluctantly accompanies her identical twin sister Rayne to a Goth nightclub, Sunny gets more than she bargained for. Because Rayne has been studying to become a vampire, and her vampire mentor just bit Sunny instead. Now, Sunny’s on her way to eternal life. Fortunately, there’s a cure, if she can get to it in time. Unfortunately, the cure is the Holy Grail. Yes, the one and only. Now, Sunny, Rayne, and vampire hottie Magnus are on a race against time to turn Sunny back before she turns vampire forever.

This book is extremely teen bubblegum. It’s fun and irreverent and silly, and a really good fast read, but that’s all it is. The plot twists are weak, the characters are shallow. The love story feels forced, and everything else feels like a vehicle for the love story. And Sunny really isn’t an engaging character of any sort.

The ending opens the door for a more interesting looking sequel—or rather, a sequel that could either be more interesting, or a total Buffy knockoff.

A Buffy the Vampire Slayer knockoff - but fun.

que chota leí dios. tenemos la historia de una chica que acompaña a su hermana gemela a un bar y conoce a un pibe. el pibe dice de ir a un lugar más privado para hablar y se empiezan a besar, la boca, el mentón y el cuello con dulces besitos. sin embargo, no todo es tan dulce porque PUM el pibe le muerde el cuello. la chabona le pregunta que chota hizo y el pibe dice "que te hace vo' si ya sabes porque te mordí" pero no, la mina no sabe. de la nada la hermana gemela de esta chica llama al pibe y la ve con la hermana, OMG. El chico al ver a ambas hermanas gemelas se queda re loco, la hermana gemela le dice que se equivocó de hermana, y la otra chica pregunta "equivocar de qué?". el pibe le responde con que el en realidad ES UN VAMPIRO NO PUEDE SERRRR. la piba está, enojada, dice que quiere ser humana, y el pibe le responde que va a tener hasta el sábado para poder buscar la cura. la novela va a tratar de la aventura más pedorra del mundo, más corta, con un drama que ni tiene que estar y el peor romance del mundo.

La verdad, no me aguante a la protagonista desde la página 1, ya se me hacía muy pelotuda para tener 16 años. Sunny (la chica en cuestión), necesita urgentemente un manicomio de lo loca que esta, de lo egoísta que es y de lo tarda que es, dios. Como narradora era insoportable, posta, me quería cortar los ojos cuando lo leía. Se me hizo así nomás la narración y parecía que quería usar palabras de ahora para modernizar, pero no pudo modernizar nada, en cambio dió un cringe de la puta madre. Nunca conocí a alguien más egoísta loco, la mina solamente piensa en ella en todo el libro, cuando dice "ay soy re egoísta, tengo que pensar en los demás" no cumple con sus palabras porque vuelve a ser egoísta. Trata mal a la hermana porque a ella le están pasando cosas "tan fuertes" que le chupa 3 huevos que;
1°- le robó el novio a la hermana.
2°- la mamá se preocupe por ella
3°- el vampiro tiene que aguantarla en toda la novela porque ella no quiere ser vampira y re hincha. encima re podía ser vampiro y vivir su vida, pero no, la chica no quería.
Tiene muchas idas y vueltas a lo largo de la historia que cansa, súper cansa. Sunny tremenda forra como hermana, porque, como mencioné anteriormente, le roba el novio a la hermana y se justifica por eso "por si no sabían, las hermanas gemelas tienen muy idéntico el ADN, así que puedo estar con Magnus". sis ?????????. Trata para el orto en toda la novela a Magnus y me dieron altas ganas de encargarle una piña, el pibe la estaba re ayudando y esta le chupaba 3 huevos grandes porque solo le importaba que sea humana.
En las últimas páginas del libro tuve que saltar algunas porque ya no aguantaba leer esta porquería. La piba solo le importaba ella, y odio ese tipo de gente. Y CÓMO SE ARREGLAN MAGNUS Y SUNNY NONONO QUE FUE ESO????? La autora se ve claramente que se cansó de su propia historia que no pudo ser capaz de escribir unos diálogos de los chicos disculpándose y diciendo que se equivocaron, que puso una frase diciendo que "de la nada, estábamos nosotros 2 riendonos, llorando y pidiendonos disculpas" QUE TE COSTO HACER MÁS DIÁLOGO.
Otra cosa es que la verdad no pude creer lo que estaba diciendo Sunny y replantiandome de que en vez de un psiquiatra necesita un manicomio. la mina estaba PENSADO HACER UN ACCIDENTE DE TRÁFICO ASÍ PASABA COMO MUERTA Y SU MAMÁ ACOSTUMBRE DE QUE NO VA A PODER VER A SU HIJA NUNCA MÁS, PERO TRANQUILOS, QUE LA VIEJA PUEDE SUPERAR LA MUERTE DE SU HIJA. Que es ese nivel de locura para fingir tu propia muerte y así sufra tu mamá, decile que sos vampira, te juro que le sacas años de depresión.

Boys That Bite Review on K-Books

I didn't really know what to expect when I first started reading this book. After finishing it all I can say is: Why didn't I hear about this book sooner? I honestly can't believe that it was published 5 years ago. I really liked this book. It's such a light, funny read.

Sunny loves being human. She is a straight A student who never does anything wrong. She can't wait to graduate high school and start college. One thing could make her life better. Jake Wilder, most popular guy in school and sex God could notice her. One thing she doesn't count on is finding out that vampires exist in the worse possible way. Being mistaken for her Goth-Vampire-Loving twin sister Rayne, Sunny is mistakenly bitten and starts turning into a vampire. She and Magnus, the vampire she is finding it very difficult to hate, must find a way to make Sunny back into a human. But what they don't count on is finding they have feelings for each other. Will Sunny be able to turn back human? Will she choose humanity over her heart?

I really enjoyed this book. It i light and funny. When I first picked it up I sat down to read the first chapter just to see what it was like and the next thing I knew I was half-way through the book. It's a very easy read and it's so enjoyable you don't really realise how much you are reading.
I really liked Sunny. I loved her reaction to finding out about vampires, mainly because she HAD a reaction to it, unlike most female heroines in YA books nowadays. I just thought she was amazing and I totally got why she reacted the way she did to everything that happened to her. She is one of the most likeable main characters and I loved seeing the story from her point of view and seeing it through her eyes. Her personality came across all the way through the book and I loved that. Not every author is able to keep the personlaity of a narrator going through the book all the time but Mari managed to do so effortlessly.
Magnus is such an awesome character and I loved him. I love how genuinely sorry he was for Sunny and no matter what he felt all he wanted to do was fix his mistake and make sure Sunny was happy.

I love what the author did with her and the irony that was shown throughout the book. The character turned into a vampire is called Sunshine. Yes it's super cheesy but I loved it. I thought it was funny and I kept laughing right the way through the book.

I can't wait to see what will happen next and read the next book in the Blood Coven series. I don't know how I will feel about the second book as it is mainly centred on Rainy, Sunny's twin-sister. I wasn't the biggest fan of Rainy, she just irritated me all the way through the book but I will keep reading. I love the style in which this book is wrote. There are definitely not enough light, funny series that centre around such a typically-dark character. Vampire books are typically dark and serious with a very action-packed aspect to the storyline that makes the reader anxious about what will happen. Boys That Bite is not the case at all and I loved that. It's light, funny and the characters have great sense of humours and it's definitely not a book to be taken too seriously and I think that's awesome for a vampire book. I am looking forward to the rest of series.

Oh my god.

So I picked this book up because it was my favorite book in middle school. I knew it would not be great, and that's exactly what I wanted.
I was prepared for bad writing but nostalgia. Because I read this book in 2006.
What I was not prepared for was this book being reprinted in 2017.
Reprinting isn't a bad thing. Books are reprinted all the time with new covers and new editions.
But never, in my entire life, have I ever read a book that was REWRITTEN. To have the same plot, same characters, same everything.... aside from the pop culture references.
The author literally wrote her story AGAIN... but she made it relevant to 2017, not 2006.

My clearest memory of reading this book the first time was that it introduced Netflix to me. As the DVD subscription service. Bot the streaming service.
But this was rewritten so they have a Netflix subscription. The character references Taylor Swift, the Kardashians, Ed Sheeran, and Ian Somerhalder in the Vampire Diaries.

I cannot seem to wrap my head around this.
That the book was rewritten so it wouldn't be as dated of a book. But in rewriting it so it would be modern, she just left herself open to dating it yet again. In 5 years (I mean, in these two years...) NONE of these names are going to hold any meaning, aside from "oh yeah, they were big a few years ago I guess.)

Cuando vi que este libro estaría en México me emocioné, eso fue hasta que supe que eran varios libros. No es que tenga mucho en contra de las sagas, pero cuando son muy largas, me pregunto si alguna ver terminaré de leerla completa o si incluso conseguiremos que lleguen todas al país (luego suceden cosas como las de Cat & Bones que sólo se publicó 1 libro en español :X), realmente espero que éste no sea el caso.

Sunny y Rayne son gemelas idénticas. Rayne tiene una "cosa" por los vampiros que la llevan a tener unas semanas de entrenamiento para ser la compañera de Magnus, nuestro guapísimo vampiro. Desafortunadamente, Magnus necesita uno pocos trucos mentales para darse cuenta que su "chica" no es exactamente la misma la que ha mordido, para cuando se entera, bueno... ya es un poquito tarde. Y Sunny, nuestra inmadura Yo-Yo-Yo-Sunny, no quiero ser un vampiro y cómo no, se pone como loca a buscar la cura para sus males. En el camino (de este libro al menos) nuestra heroína tiene que lidiar un su egocentrismo, que es un poquito mas que demasiado y para mala suerte mía, no consigue superar en este libro; y con el amor, que llega sorpresivamente y espero yo, para quedarse, Magnus se lo merece.

Chicos que muerden ha sido una sorpresa. Me recuerda un poco a cierto libro que no mencionaré, por nuestro Vampiro, todo dulce y protector; y por nuestra protagonista, un poco... mmm... ingenua? En fin, es el inicio de una serie y aunque no estoy que salto por el siguiente libro y no sé si voy a querer leerlo, sí les diría que le dieran una oportunidad si son fans de Buffy (yo no). En terminos generales no vi muchas cosas interesantes, aunque sí una prota muy irritante a la que se me antojó darle unos buenos golpes para que reaccionara. Una lectura para pasar el rato (y lo tenemos de tour en LBT)...

I've had this book on my TBR list since it came out. I actually had a print copy of it back in the day, but lost many of my print books during one of my moves. The audio was great. The narrator really brought the twin sisters to life. The story is YA to it's core, with plenty of teen angst and questionable decision making that you know will come back to bite them (pun intended) in the end (pun intended). Throw in some Arthurian lore and it was an entertaining read.

Introduction: I read this book WAAAAAAAAY back when (like, way back when I was probably in early high school way back) and I absolutely loved it back then. I remember reading this book on the way to a swim meet on a bus filled with athletes who didn't want to talk to me (I was a minor niner who was a great swimmer so I got to go with the grade twelves who were also great swimmers to a meet) so I decided to let my inner book worm come out. Long story short, I read four books of the series there, and was incredibly upset that I left the rest of the series at home.

So, Mari Mancusi rebooted the book from my understanding so of course I wanted to reread it. Out of all the vampire books I obsessed over in my high school years, Mari Mancusi's Blood Coven Vampires was one of my favourite (Alongside Vladimir Todd and Vampire Kisses) so I wanted to get my hands on a copy! And guess what happened? I wiggled my way into a group that reads this very series so I got a copy sent to me!

My review is simply a review - it was not requested to be nice, it was simply provide a review and we'll continue throwing this series at you. So how could I argue? I loved this series and I had been meaning to pick it back up as some point anyways! It's my guilty pleasure!

Review:
Rayne and Sunny are adorable. While the names are a tad silly (has anyone actually named their children like this? Please, leave me a link for proof. Maybe I live in too small of a town to see this being common), they are fantastic characters. Re-reading the series makes me wonder why having their names Rayne and Sunny was so important - was it for dramatic effect? Was it to show they are opposites? Was it just for comedy?

When Magnus appears, it still makes my heart pound. He was one of my book crushes, and I still adore him. How can you not? He's super hot and a great ying to our Sunny's yang. He's introduced as dark and sexy, which is how you want a YA/teen heart throb to be introduced. Mari does an incredible job expanding on his character -he's not just tall, dark, handsome and brooding. Slowly over the course of this series she delves deeper into this. Now as an adult, I really appreciate that. As a teenie bopper, YA-teenage addict back in the day, I wasn't as appreciative of the hard work she put in.

Bonus Marks: Shout out to Emma Stone!!

Cheesey factor aside, I really did enjoy the entire Sunny accidentally stepping in for Rayne portion of this novel. It's early on, and you can see it coming if you love your soap operas (like I do...), but it's still a great way to get this series started. It starts the series off with a bang and makes the entire potential plot flip upside down. What do you do if you accidentally step in and become a vampire instead of your sister? It's a great start! I still enjoy it, despite the slight cheesiness that goes along with it.

Mari is also the queen of vampire comedy. Random comments fly left and right (sarcastically, insultingly, and many other forms of comedy) and it makes this book better. Does it make it cheesey? Probably. Is this supposed to be a Shakespearean YA novel? Nope!! So it fits in perfectly! This book has a splash of comedy in it! That's one of the great aspects of it!

Bonus Marks: "Vamps-R-Us.com" and the Batman reference. Mari knows the way to my heart...

Overall, this book still holds up for me. When I was a teenager it was a lot "cooler" - the tone definitely fits a YA audience. Since I'm an adult now, I really do enjoy it. It's funny, slightly cheesey, and has the perfect amounts of romance, drama and comedy to make a really great book.

This book won't be for everyone, but as a throwback for me it's excellent. I definitely suggest this book to those who like the YA genre, who want just a splash of cheesey, soap opera-y drama or who want to read a different take on the vampire genre.

Forewarning: This book sounds like it's written by a teenager (isn't that kind of the point? The narrators are sixteen years old?). I have seen many, many, many, many complaints about this but you need to understand: THE NARRATORS ARE SIXTEEN YEARS OLD. If you have a problem with that, you need to see that this book is a YA novel. It's not a steamy, EL James Fifty Shades of Grey or Shakespearean novel. It's a YA vampire novel. That is all.

A cute, light and entertaining YA vampiric romance!

You know, being bitten by a vampire one week before prom really sucks.

Boys That Bite by Mari Mancusi is the first cute, light and entertaining installment in the author’s The Blood Coven Vampires series. This is a series that I’ve wanted to delve into ever since I first heard about it described as being attractive to Buffy/Angel fans at the Coastal Magic Convention a year ago. Now that the whole series is being re-released in new updated e-book form, this seemed like the perfect time to jump on board. Now I’m wondering why I waited so long to start it, as I was captivated by it all!

As the story opens, we meet sixteen-year-old identical twins, Sunshine “Sunny” and Rayne McDonald. They are five-foot-four with dirty blond hair and brown eyes. However, while they may look similar, they are worlds apart in their natures. Sunny explicitly follows the rules and is an A-student while Rayne … does neither. Sunny has a crush on Jake Wilder at school and is officially on cloud nine as Jake has asked her to go to the prom with him. On the other hand, Rayne is into the Goth scene. She wears nothing but black and even hosts a blog about vampires.

On this particular day, Rayne guilt-trips Sunny into accompanying her to a Goth club, Club Fang, that evening. The scene is not to Sunny’s liking, but Sunny is captivated by a hot guy who introduces himself by saying: "Good evening..I'm Magnus..I believe you were expecting me.” In reality, Sunny wasn’t expecting him, nor the bite on the neck he gave her thinking she was her twin sister, Rayne. From that point on, Sunny’s life took a dark turn…

I absolutely loved both Sunny and Magnus. Sunny’s essence was genuine wholesome sunshine and her personality and interactions took me back to my high school days. She was easy to relate to. On the other hand, Magnus was the epitome of a tortured hero and swoonworthy. He had been an Arthurian knight and was beyond gallant in his relationship with Sunny. My heart went out to him when it was disclosed how long he’d waited for a blood mate only to be foiled by a mistaken identity crisis. Unfortunately, any romantic relationship between this mis-matched couple seemed doomed from the start. Regardless, I couldn’t help but hold out hope for everyone’s happiness. Boys That Bite is YA-friendly. There’s some kissing, but no hanky panky.

This is the first book I’ve ever read by Mari Mancusi but it certainly won’t be the last. Mari’s writing is top-notch and the world and the characters she has created are incredible. While this is a vampiric paranormal urban fantasy, Mari’s spin on the concept is unique. This story is laugh-out-loud funny and action-packed. It kept me riveted from the first sentence through to the surprising twist at the end which left me smiling and craving more. Truly, if you are a fan of the Buffy series, you need to check this series out too! I can’t wait to start the next book, Stake That, which will feature Rayne. It appears that Rayne may, in actuality, be a vampire slayer. Oh my!

At Club Fang.. which Rayne convinced Sunny to go with her! said Sunny should change clothes.. she was fond of black clothing.. Sunny didnt like it. Rayne said she has some pink. It was a shirt that said "BITE ME" =))anyway, they were in the club. got separated. Sunny sat like wallflower. A guy came near! His name was Magnus. He was HOT! ;) haha! Sunny and Magnus went out. They kissed and He bit her on the neck. Rayne asked Sunny what she was doing with Magnus. He mistaken Sunshine for Rayne. He got nervous that he got the wrong person. an unauthorized bite has a consequence. Sunshine had no idea what just happened. Rayne explained. She said that Magnus was a Real Vampire. Sunny laughed. She asked for proof! Rayne told Magnus and agreed. They had to stabbed him. Rayne was kinda excited to do it but Sunny said she wants to do it. She did. She really stabbed him. She freaked out! O_O" Magnus stood up and laughed. Sunny now believed that he was a vampire. Rayne then said.. Sunny is also gonna be a vamp. Sunny was shocked and said that she doesnt want to! Since her all-time crush finally asked her to prom.

They found out there was a cure. To stop Sunny's transformation. They had to find the "Holy Grail". Which was in a small village. There was a festival. So they couldnt talk to the keeper yet! instead they went out and had fun! Sunny and Magnus danced with the crowd of tourists. Magnus said he hasnt danced for like, a thousand years.. Sunny was falling for Magnus. but she stops herself from doing so. Next night.. They found it! Though Magnus paid a million bucks for it! but he said it was worth it! Alley felt a pang of guilt. The Keeper gave them 2 vials of blood from the Holy Grail. They went home. Magnus asked Sunny if they could hangout sometime. But Sunny said its best they wouldnt. Magnus was sad about that.. He really wanted a bloodmate.

Prom came! Rayne & Sunshine's mom said that there was a boy who keeps calling.. Sunny's crush. He's intoxicated with Sunny's vampire scent. He's been asking if Sunny will still go with him. He picked her up in a limo. went to prom. Sunny hanged with the A-list. popular kids. She was thinking about Magnus.. Then Rayne and Magnus came! Her heart melt. Rayne made a lame excuse and left them. Sunny and Magnus talked but was disturbed by her crush. Magnus went out. She followed. She told him that she loved him. Magnus loved her too! They Kissed. Magnus told her to hurry up and drink the blood in the vial. Sunny was ready to give up the sun and be a creature of the night to be with Magnus. So, she destroyed the vial. Magnus was shocked and asked her why she did that! Sunny got confused. It didnt go as she thought it would be. Magnus excused himself to go to the boys rooms. came back then bit Sunny in the neck! He removed fake fangs.. Sunny was still confused. And then Magnus showed her the vial. She then realized what he had done! :O Magnus must've noticed that Sunny was kinda sad. She wasnt human. So, he did that! Magnus said it was ok but Sunny was depressed. She's human again! How can they be together? Magnus assured her! That nothing will set them apart. :"> heehee!

Sunshine "Sunny" McDonald was doing pretty well; the hottest guy at Oakridge High School, Jake Wilder, has asked her to go to the prom with him, and life is now complete. At five foot four, with dirty blond hair and unimpressive muddy brown eyes, Sunny would have sworn that Jake didn't even know she existed. Freckles notwithstanding, she's not as easily recognizable as her twin sister, Rayne, who's so into the Goth scene, vampires, and wearing all black that it's not even funny. Yes, life is looking up--until Sunny lets herself get guilt tripped into attending Club Fang, a cheesy Goth club filled with wannabe vampires, and suddenly her life isn't so sunny anymore.

The night starts out okay--yes, the club is the epitome of cheesy and the smoke machine is making her cough--but improves vastly when an Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean Orlando, not Lord of the Rings Orlando)introduces himself with a "Good evening..I'm Magnus..I believe you were expecting me" line. Sunny sure wasn't expecting him, and she definitely was not expecting the bite on the neck she gets from the totally hot Magnus.

Suddenly life is taking a dark turn, when Sunny finds out that Magnus is not only a vampire--for real!--but that he mistook her for her twin sister, Rayne. Now Sunny's going to turn into one of the undead--this close to prom!--unless she find the Holy Grail. Which is the one and only thing that can reverse the process of turning into a vampire. But even with thoughts of Jake Wilder on the brain, Sunny's not so sure that being a vampire would be so horrible, or that being in league with Magnus would be the end of her life.

BOYS THAT BITE is a funny, action-packed read that will keep you turning pages long into the night. The characters--from Sunny, Rayne, Magnus, and everyone in between--are all well-rounded people, and the dialogue is smart and funny. As the three race to save Sunny from an eternal life as a member of the undead, she'll have to find out what's most important in life. And the ending, including a stunner regarding Rayne, definitely sets up the scene for a sequel. A great read!

Sunny’s sister has convinced her to join her at a goth club little did Sunny know that the guy flirting with her really was a vampire. Or that his bite would start the transformation into becoming a vampire was meant for her sister. Not only does Sunny have to worry about becoming a but there is also a vampire slayer out there who could be after her. At least Bertha the slayer has seen better days so she should be able to avoid her.

The only chance to change Sunny back into a human is to drink from the holy grail which happens to be in England. While Sunny may not be on the up when it comes to vampire her twin sister is having a blog all about it. At school at last Sunny has drawn the attention her long time crush he even asks her to prom. Now I only they can find the cup and get back to town before Prom.

I like Sunny a lot while more than I do her twin sister, but maybe that’s because her sister doesn’t have a big role in this book. I like that even though Sunny is tossed into the supernatural world she handles it well accepting her fate and dashing off with a strange vampire to stop the transition. I like Magnus when we learned the truth behind how long he’s waited for a blood mate my heart went out to him. I also like the way things worked out for both of them.

I’ve had Boys that Bite on my kindle for so long I forgot that it was even on it. I’ve been craving a YA vampire novel so I decided to give it a shot and wasn’t disappointed. While the vampire concept isn’t original the author has added her own unique spin creating a captivating paranormal romance. I really loved the characters I found Sunny easy to connect with after all she’s just like I was back in the day as a teen. This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author so I knew I would love her writing style which I did. I love all the pop culture references scattered throughout the book. A fast paced action packed whirlwind adventure that I found hard to put down. I enjoyed every moment of Boys that Bite it’s a beautifully written story. I look forward to reading the rest of the series the next one is on my kindle.

I had nothing better to do for the entire month of January so I was like hey, why not catch up on my reading cause I literally hadn't read a book in months since January and that's just not like me. I have a ton of e-books gathering dust and consuming memory space on my computer that I just can't bear to delete because I'm always like: "Yeah, I'll totally read them in my spare time!" I literally spent hours playing spider solitaire instead of reading but finally convinced myself, I needed to regain some brain cells in time for school and decided to read one of aforementioned e-books and I chose this one.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet.

I didn't pay for this book (someone sent it to me) and you shouldn't either.

It was slightly funny but very cliche and predictable. You read this when you're constipated and need to pass time in the bathroom. At least that's why I think people read on the toilet....

ANYWAYS, It was just too out there and a bit childish and I know this review sounds harsh but this was just not worth my time. I will not be reading the rest of the series.

Sunny was rude, the stereotypes and the jokes made about stereotypes and Magnus falling in love with Sunny and the trip to England and her hippie mother and their names (Sunny and Rayne. How many different languages can I express my intense hatred for authors who try to be cute by coming up with unusual names. If it's not a dystopian or relevant to the story or not cheesy or vomit-inducing, go ahead, make up your own name or use something unique. Otherwise....please just sit down and stop.), the whole Vampire Council crap.....I just can't.

You know when you think "I'm not sure where to start" well that's what I feeling right now,

Okay first things first, Sunshine and Rayne are twin sisters. And Rayne is going to go to a club to be turned into a vampire and live happily ever after with Magnus. Well, personally, if I was going to a club to be turned into a vampire, I wouldn't bring my twin sister along. I mean what was she thinking.
"Oh yeah, I'm just going to invite my sister to the club where I'm going to be turned into a vampire" yeah, real smart thinking.
And what's with all the celebrity look a likes? I mean seriously, she couldn't go without a page writing about how someone looks like this or someone likes that that.
And what's up with Bertha? She's described as fat, pimpled face, and has braces. And so in like two lines she kills the vampire leader? You know for a vampire who has more strength and has lived longer then a fat pimpled face girl, I thought he would at least do something rather than stand there. Jeez....
Oh and don't get me started on the Holy Grail. It was SO easy for Magnus and Sunshine to find! They got to this town, dance and party, kiss and then go to this little house and Magnus offers money and the dude goes, "yep let me just talk about that with someone". Then he comes back and simply shows them the holy grail. He just leads them down some creepy hallways, and a staircase and boom, there's the holy grail. WHAT THE HECK?!?! I hated this book and seriously, I don't want to continue the series.

I enjoyed this book all the way through until the end. Then I was disappointed. I liked Sunny and couldn't stand her sister Rayne. Rayne seemed unsympathetic about the plight Sunny found herself in. I guess it would be hard to feel sorry for Sunny when Sunny had what Rayne wanted more than anything. But she had to feel her sister's panic and pain. Rayne was more interested in how bad the vampire was feeling. Some parts were absurd like the overweight vampire slayer. I get that it was to be radically different from Buffy or something, but wow, overweight? No way an overweight human is going to kill a vampire unless she gets the drop on him while he's sleeping. It's just silly.

Another crazy inclusion was that all of this vampire information was supposed to be kept secret from the world, but the vampires had encouraged Rayne to keep a blog about every single detail of her journey to becoming a vampire. What? How could the author and editors miss that little detail? Don't they know a blog is public?

I will probably read the rest of the series, but because I abhorred the ending of this book and because I never did start liking Rayne, it will be a bit while I read the rest of the books I've purchased.

Chicos Que Muerden es una novela muy sencilla, ligera, sin complicaciones en la trama que gracias a que está narrada en primera persona, es divertida, con personajes muy marcados y bien definidos a pesar de la sencillez… cae creo que en demasiados clichés y me hubiera gustado que desarrollara la autora un poco más algunas situaciones. Es una novela completamente dirigida a adolescentes, tanto por los personajes como la historia en sí, pero sin importar la edad, cuando buscamos historias sencillas para pasar el rato esta es una buena opción, ya que fuera de que Sunny es un personaje con el que me desesperé muchísimo, junto con Rayne y Magnus es una historia que hasta divertida es, por lo que si están buscando vampiros letales, temo decirles que están en una lectura equivocada. Para cuando se busca una lectura sin complicaciones, para pasar el rato es que termina siendo una buena opción, cumple el cometido de entretener sin ir más allá.

Super fast, cute, yet cheesey read. Sunny and Rayne are identical twins. Rayne loves the gothic scene and begs Sunny to go with her to Club Fang. While there, Magnus mistakes Sunny for Rayne, and bites Sunny. She has 7 days until she is a vampire. Rayne went through three months training and was choosen to be Magnus' blood mate. Sunny just wants to be human again and go to the prom with sex god Jake Wilder. While Magnus helps Sunny find the holy grail that will reverse her transformation, they begin falling for each other. There are cheesy refereces to a Bertha the vampire slayer and other random stuff. An okay read but I probably won't take the time to read the rest of the series.

Holy fudgecake! I was not expecting that ending! I am pretty damn sure that nothing is going to stand in the way of me reading the next book in the Boys That Bite series!

Although some parts were --admittedly-- a little predictable, yeah that ending definitely wasn't !
